Practical information for Ukrainian citizens in Hvidovre

Apply for a residence permit

You can be granted a temporary residence permit under the Special Act section 1 if you:

are an Ukrainian citizen and have left Ukraine on 24 February 2022 or later, where you have resided when you departet,
on 24 February 2022 were a recognized refugee in Ukraine and have left Ukraine on 24 February 2022 or later, or
are an Ukrainian citizen or on 24 February 2022 were recognized as a refugee in Ukraine have resided or have had another residence permit in Denmark on 24 February 2022

Once you have received a residence permit, you can apply for a job, get a bank account, go to school, to a doctor og hospital etc.

Ukrainian citizens who have been granted a residence permit and have been placed in Hvidovre can live at Belægningen/Retræten.
If you do not want to live at Belægningen or with private hosts, you can apply for rental housing via the municipality. This is done via Hvidovre Municipality's website (link below)

Food, clothes etc.

Until you get a temporary residence permit in Denmark, you can apply to Hvidovre Municipality for money for food. The municipality provides food tickets for Ukrainians: DKK 60 per. adult per day and DKK 40 per. children pr. day.

The Red Cross in Hvidovre offers Ukrainian refugees accommodated in Hvidovre to pick up free second hand clothes, childrens clothes and equipment in the Red Cross shop on this adress:
Strandmarksvej 21, Hvidovre.
Mondays and Tuesdays are the best days to visit the shop. Opening hours: 10-17. Saturdays 10-13, Sundays closed.

Health care and medical care

Medical care clinics for Ukrainian citizens have opened on four locations i the Copenhagen area. Here you can get prescription medicine, wound care, treatment and care for pregnant women, vaccinations etc.

When you have a residence permit and a place of residence in Denmark, you are entitled to free treatment in most of the healthcare system.

Free transport by train, metro and bus

Travellers with permanent residence in Ukraine can travel for free on DSB’s international trains that cross the Danish/German border. The only formal requirement is that passengers are able to show a Ukrainian passport or driving licence or documents stating that the passenger is a resident of Ukraine.

DSB, Metroselskabet and Movia offer a special ticket for Ukrainian refugees in Denmark. The special ticket is valid for Region Zealand and the Capital Region. Ukrainian refugees can get the special ticket through the public authorities. The ticket can be ordered and printed for a selected zone area with a validity of 1-14 days based on the user's travel needs. The price for the ticket is DKK 0.
